Last month, the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) commisioned the largest cargo warehouse in Eastern Nigeria within and outside the
Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. The warehouse has the capacity to handle 100,000metric tonnes of cargo.
The new warehouse will ensure the east has a direct access to international trade hubs like China, Dubai and Europe.
According to the chairman of NAHCO, Alhaji Suleiman Yahya, "about 60 billion naira worth of cargo which is about 20 per cent of the
entire cargo in Lagos is earmarked for the five eastern states with a
lot of them finding their ways to Enugu, Onitsha, Aba and Umuahia." Hence a move for the new warehouse.in Enugu.
The new warehouse will not only create more jobs for Enugu state but it will further boost the economy and revenue of the eastern region just like its western counterpart.
