Nigerian starlet, Alex Iwobi, signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal on Tuesday after an impressive performance with Arsenal’s U21. The 19-year-old striker who was invited by Super Eagles’ head coach,
Sunday Oliseh, for the international friendlies against DR Congo and
Cameroon this week, was the mainstay of the Gunners’ under-21 team. Iwobi scored 9 goals in 9 matches for the Arsenal U21 last season and has played for England at youth level. He also had an impressive pre-season for Arsenal's first team.
The new Arsenal signee scoring ability has made him to be seen as the potential new 'Henry Thiery' for Arsenal. He proved this when he scored a brilliant goal in the first half of a pre-season match against Lyon.
Iwobi was born in Lagos and has been at Arsenal since he was a primary
school student. He represented the club at almost every age level.
Alex Iwobi's decision to play for Nigeria was influenced by his father, Kanu Nwankwo and Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha. Though, Jay Jay happens to be his uncle.
